before jesus ascended to heavens he said that he had acquired all power on earth and in heaven having wrestled successfully with, and overwhelmed satan and his angels.
however the church he established had/has to make an attrocious war against that same soundly defeated enemy.
the question is if jesus defeated them once and for all why are his followers fighting a war against them all over again?
When I was a Witness I would explain this by saying that Jesus was giving formal notice to Satan and his Demons that they had lost and were sentenced to eternal destruction. I used to say that it was similar to a convicted murderer being sentenced to death but not executed until many years later.
are you preoccupied with the future?
what will tomorrow bring?
what does my future hold?
I look forward to the future. Humans have faced a lot of problems in the past 70,000 years. We have adapted to new situations, thrived in extreme conditions and will continue to make our lives happier and healthier.
Necessity is the mother of invention. When oil is truly about to run out and quite possibly long before, new energy technology will be developed. The future does not give a precise road map on how our lives will improve, but 70,000 years of human hisory gives us an outstanding track record with no reason to believe humans will stop thinking, creating and triumphing.

i'll start..... next dime, go for rollo's.. hubert

hi, i'm on my "spiritual search so i want to see what "religion"/non religion you choose and why.
for example: are you christian?
pagan?
Freedom Frog:
From your description I would call you a Deist. You are in very good company, most of America's Founding Fathers were Deists. God got the ball rolling but leaves plenty of latitude for humans to work out their problems.
just heard the tail end of the news that producing a "designer baby" for the sole purpose of using its bone marrow/organs to aid other suffering children is now lawful in england!

geeesh, what next?
The reality I refer to is the medical proceedures involved.
When I read this post I remembered a TV movie from the 70's where clones were raised at a secret facility to harvest their organs when needed.
The religious fanatics in the US will not allow research on human cloning, stem cells or any similar medical proceedure.

I am an Atheist. This does not mean that I have no sense of morality, ethics or how I fit in the world. I observe the Objectivist philosophy. All that humans need to be healthy and happy can be logically deduced by our own minds.

A couple in the US faced a similar situation a few years ago. They had a second child for the purpose of being a bone marrow donor.
The way the media report these cases it conjures up visions of long rows of hospital beds with unconscious children being sold for parts.
The reality is very different.
i was sitting at work the other day contemplating nonwork stuff.
i happen to work 8 floors up and i get a great view of the road and all the cars rushing around and it got me thinking about how from a distance people all look the same and things start to look a little ridiculous...anyhow.
then that got me thinking about how easy it would be for it all to fall apart (not like an end of the world scenario - but just a society thing.
Humanity is not near as fragile as many people believe. Instead of societal breakdown the world is heading to a bright future. Not by divine intervention but through the advancement of science and new technology. Thanks to the most creative problem solving tool in the universe, the human brain.
my most frightening experience occured about 12 years as i was driving in a safari park with wild animals like tigers around.
there was suddenly a very loud explosion under the bonnet and that really frightened me and my two passengers, if there is to be a fire what do we do with tigers outside?
fortunately it soon became clear that there was no fire only a lot steam came gushing out, the cooling system had over heated and a pipe got burst asunder .
While cutting down trees in Montana in 1975 I became tangled in a barbed wire fence as a very large spruce was falling toward my head. The branches stopped the tree about one foot above my face. The tree had to be cut up before I could get out from under it. I suffered one small scratch on my arm.
Two years later at four o'clock in the morning on the way to Las Vegas, Nevada myself and two friends skidded our pick-up to a screeching halt at a police roadblock. The driver was partially deaf and only heard their third warning for us to stop the vehicle and come out with our hands up. Three officers pointed rifles at us from the front while another officer drew a bead on us from the right and a very nervous officer cautiously walked up behind us shaking so badly I could see his rifle bob up and down in the tail lights. An officer approached from the left with a drawn pistol and said that a convict had escaped from the Arizona State Pen, he was armed and dangerous and heading their way. He said if we had not stopped when we did he would have ordered all six officers to open fire.
